The Modern Successor to the Job Seeker Visa

​

Effective June 1, 2024, Germany introduced the Opportunity Card (Chancenkarte), which has officially replaced the traditional Job Seeker Visa for most international applicants. This points-based system offers a more flexible and accessible pathway for professionals to enter the German labor market.

 

The Opportunity Card allows skilled professionals to enter Germany for up to one year to secure employment. Unlike the previous system, it provides greater flexibility, including immediate part-time work rights and trial employment periods while you search for your ideal role.

 

📍 Who Can Apply?

To qualify for the Opportunity Card, you must hold a recognized university degree or at least two years of vocational training. If your qualification is not fully recognized in Germany, you can qualify via the points-based system by scoring at least 6 points based on criteria such as age, professional experience, language skills (minimum A1 German or B2 English), and previous stays in Germany.
